I can understand "groups" wanting to stick together but I think the ISRA (Internation Star Riders Assoc) has a great idea. Any one can ride with the Star Riders. They understand that friends and family like to ride together and don't necessarily ride the same model bikes. I rode on the back of my SO's Royal Star in
Daytona last year. When I got to the ride site I was told I could have riden the Savage. They don't discriminate. They even asked if I had time to go back and get my bike before the ride started. Unfortunately, I didn't.
We were invited by a friend to ride with a group, mainly HD's, last summer. We decided to try and if anyone gave us a hard time we would just leave the group and ride on our own. We were given a few looks and were told the majority wouldn't bother us. The ride went great. Alot had to do with the person who had invited us. The Savage was all customized and really got alot of compliments. The "girls" had not riden their bikes but when they saw me they wished they had. I think this summer they'll ride theirs.
